While you record, the In level slider on the left shows the input level from the microphone. If the level turns red, drag the slider down (or record the part again more softly) to prevent distortion.Drag the In level slider up or down to set the input level. The In level slider is available if your iPad or input source supports input level control. If the input device supports left and right channels, tap Channel button under the In level slider, tap Input 1 or Input 2 to select the input channel, or tap Stereo to record in stereo. DJTT has written about a number of wild gear mods over the years, but this one might be the most useful revitalization of old DJ gear yet. In this mod, an old CDJ-1000mk3 (released in March 2006) gets a powerful new heads-up display that offers the same level of detail that CDJ-2000NXSs have on them. Watch the mod in action and keep reading to learn more.

In CDJ mode, the jog dial functions just like a Pioneer CDJ player, but without the touch sensitivity. When the CDJ-1000 MK3 media player is in vinyl mode, the top of the jog dial functions just like a vinyl turntable. Pressing down stops the music and allows you to scratch or cue your track by rotating the jog dial in either direction.

The CDJ-1000MK3 came out all the way back in March of 2006, making it a pretty old piece of gear. As you might expect, it’s a proper CD player – and the normal display on the screen is pretty low on detail and information. Here’s what it normally looks like:

With the prototype mod featured in the video below, DJs first analyze CDs in Rekordbox, upload them to a SD card, and pop that into a microcontroller kit with a built-in display. The kit is soldered into the CDJ’s circuit board.

Load in a CD, and playback works on the CDJ as normal – but with the added bonus of seeing far more detail for every track on the microcontroller screen:

Mar 05, 2015  Earlier this week we looked at how Traktor DJs can have a plug and play setup with Pioneer CDJs in HID mode.Today Ryan Dejaegher is going to show Serato DJ and Scratch Live DJs how they can use CDJs in HID mode. The control is quite similar between Traktor and Serato but there are some notable differences in the models that are supported and the hardware required. May 21, 2018 This project has been in the making for a while. We first shared Andrei’s original concept for the mod last year on DJTT, which takes an old Pioneer DJ CDJ-1000mk3 and gives it a very modern upgrade that would feel familiar to almost any current digital DJ. Hi guys, I'm kind of a newbie so bare with me! I am looking to upgrade my equipment. I have been using Traktor Pro with the S2 for a year and some change and want to make the switch to CDJ's being the industry standard and all. I have a really good deal atm, a friend of a friend is selling me Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3's within my budget but I am confused about whether I can use this with SeratoDJ? Jun 27, 2012  SOLVED CDJ350 / DJM350 set up with Serato Scratch Live Right, I'm looking to buy the whole 350 set up soon, and I'm looking to use the Serato Scratch Live program with it. What is confusing me is the whole connecting up part. Sep 24, 2018  Best For: CDJ-style practice for DJs who don’t care about CDs; In 2016, Pioneer DJ released a new version of the XDJ-1000, a USB-only player. The new MK2 model updated the browsing/onscreen experience to reflect the NXS2 style, with track filter.

The official description of the mod is that it “adds a color TFT display based on the STM32F746 Discovery to the Pioneer CDJ-1000mk3 with waveforms and precise BPM counter.”

Who Made This Mod?

Who would have the badass skills able to do this mod? The level of detail might seem familiar – because it’s the same guy from the standalone Technics DVS mod we’ve covered a few times on DJTT. His name is Andrei Anantsko, and he’s incredibly clever when it comes to DJ gear mods.

Pioneer Cdj Mk3

When asked how the mod works, he explained:

The CD is analyzed in Rekordbox. The analysis data is imported to the SD card. The SD card is installed on the Discovery board. Rekordbox data is synchronized with the player’s operation and displayed. The next step is to exclude the MPU and DSP installed in the Pioneer CDJ-1000, leave only the control panel MPU, and write to the SD card audio data + rekordbox data. Izotope rx 6 remove room tone.

This is the graphics I created myself (fonts, colors, positions of elements) to within a pixel. This was created based on the screenshots display in the service manuals CDJ-2000 and photos of the display in high resolution.

Right now there are no plans to turn this into a commercial product – but we’ve reached out to Andrei to see if he’d be interested in sharing more details on how other DJs can do this exact modification. UPDATE: Here’s his response:

This is not yet a completed project. I plan to remove the CD-ROM and play files from a USB flash drive or an SD card. Then the mod will be of great value and for it it will be possible to use the CDJ-1000 even with a faulty motherboard, since all functions will be performed by the Discovery board.

After that, I’ll share the firmware and the connection description, but I need time.

Worth noting: CDJ-1000mk3s are selling for about $200-300 dollars on eBay right now, and the STM32F746 Discovery kits / development boards are available on Mouser for ~$57.

Cdj 1000 Mk3 Serato Scratch Live Review

DJFUNKMIKE,
No matter what mixer you are using, as long as its hooked up in LINE, it should work. I did have that same issue with the tracking bar being red the entire time even when not scratching. Also, if you look at the tracking in the setup tab, The technics will have a nice circle and the cdj with have a square box around the border. which is kind of weird.
However, the playback and everything seems to be fine and working correctly. I don't know if in the future it will cause an issue or not, so don't quote me on that.
What I actually did is just use the 1 CDJ and use the INPUT REVERSE button in serato to switch the song to the other channel so that I can continue to use the same CDJ for mixing, while still being able to mix with both channels.
I find this method better because a CDJ's beatmatching is all digital, hence more accurate and stable. The Technics runs on a motor which in turn will eventually slow down or speed up at certain times, causing the beat to run off track a little bit. So with this method, in essence it's like having 2 CDJ's to mix with. You get it?
It's up to you what you want to do, either mixer will work for both methods. Hope that helps.
